Gynecological uses of GnRH antagonists: review article

Aim: to review and analyze the use of gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) antagonists in endometriosis, adenomyosis, non-menstrual pelvic pain, uterine fibroids, prostate cancer, female infertility, precocious puberty. Methods: information used write this manuscript was obtained during a three-month period, between October May 2022, from specialized literature, written English Spanish, related potential applications GnRH medicine, mainly published last five years, using journals found most relevant medical digital archives, including PubMed, SciELO, Google Scholar, Cochrane, Elsevier. Among keywords for obtaining updated were antagonists; receptors (GnRHR); elagolix; relugolix; cetrorelix; linzagolix; hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal (HPG) axis; endometriosis; adenomyosis; pain; fibroids; leiomyomas; infertility; puberty; PP; central PP. Results: induce rapid onset clinical effects, without flare-up effect that is seen with agonists, have immediate therapeutic effects; once treatment concludes, hormonal suppression rapidly ceases, normalization gonadal function within few days, guaranteeing an increase concentration, controlling pain heavy menstrual bleeding, serving as part infertility Conclusion: even though aforementioned gynecological pathologies can be treated multiple drugs, shown first lines treatment, long their administration protocols are followed correctly.
